Summer Rowing Camp

TJC Summer Rowing Camp 2023

Tempe Junior Crew Summer Rowing Camp is a great way for experienced rowers to stay in shape and prepare for the Fall season as well as being a great way for new rowers to continue practicing what they’ve learned in Intro to Row and decide if they want to join the team for the Fall season in starting September 2023.  Rowers from all teams and clubs are welcome to participate in TJC’s summer rowing camp.

COVID-19 and Summer Rowing

TJC is following the CDC’s recently updated recommendations. Please see the TJC website under the link COVID-19 to confirm your understanding and compliance with the most recent policy.

New rowers are required to complete an Intro to Row (ITR) prior to their first summer camp session.  Schedule details and pricing for upcoming ITR’s can be found under the Programs and Registration tab. If your teen has never rowed a shell before, do not sign them up for Summer Camp unless and until he or she has completed an Intro to Row course.

Signup

We will have only 1 registration form for all rowers. TJC athletes who were on the TJC team for the 2022/23 season only can skip directly to step 5.

Non-TJC Rower Signup

If you did NOT row with TJC for the Fall of 2022 and/or the Spring of 2023, please follow these steps to sign up for Summer Camp.  This includes new rowers and rowers who have been with other clubs.

ALL STEPS MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF CAMP

Step 1 – Float Test

All Tempe Junior Crew rowers must have a Float Test on file with us.  If your rower has previously rowed with Tempe Junior Crew, they should have a Float Test already on file and you can skip this step (please confirm that this is the case by emailing membership@tempejuniorcrew.com first).

If your rower has not previously rowed with Tempe Junior Crew, then we must receive a completed Float Test Form.  If you have previously rowed with another club, we will accept a copy of the float test they have on file.  Have your coach send an email to membership@tempejuniorcrew.com stating that you have previously completed a float test and are a proficient swimmer.  If you are unable to do so you will need to complete a Float Test.

Contact your local public pool, gym, or YMCA to inquire about Float Test availability.  Several participants have also been able to complete their tests at the Kiwanis Pool in Tempe as well as the Cactus Aquatic & Fitness Center in Scottsdale.  Regardless of where you get your test, Float Tests must be completed in a pool under the supervision of a lifeguard certified by the American Red Cross.

Please download the Float Test Form for additional information.

Once completed, Float Test Forms should be scanned and emailed as a PDF to membership@tempejuniorcrew.com.  If you don’t have a scanner available to you, consider downloading an easy-to-use scanning app to your phone like Adobe Scan.  As a last resort, if you do not have access to a scanner or a smartphone that will work with one of these apps, please snap a photo and send by email to the address above.

  • New rowers must purchase a Championship Membership
  • DO NOT SIGN UP FOR JUST A BASIC MEMBERSHIPThe Basic Membership does not include the insurance Tempe Junior Crew requires in order to allow your participation.
  • Current rowers must ensure that they have  Championship Membership and that it does not expire before August 12, 2023.
  • All rowers must make sure that Tempe Junior Crew is listed as the Member’s Organization.  Tempe Junior Crew’s Club Code is B6ATY.

Step 3 – Sign an electronic copy of the Waivers and Rules Packet

Each rower and parent/guardian must read and sign (in all applicable places) the 2022 Fall through 2023 Summer Waivers and Rules Packet.  These waivers will be good through Summer 2023.

The signed waiver and rules packet can be brought to the Parent/Team Meeting or scanned and emailed to membership@tempejuniorcrew.com.

If you recently completed an Intro to Row, you would have already turned this in.

The signed waiver and rules packet should be scanned and emailed to membership@tempejuniorcrew.com.

Again, if you do not have a scanner, but have a smartphone, you can scan your signed paperwork with the Adobe Scan app available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.

Step 4 – Review the 2022-2023 Tempe Junior Crew Parent/Athlete Handbook

Please download the 2022-2023 Tempe Junior Crew Parent/Athlete Handbook.  Parents and rowers will both need to sign an acknowledgment in the Waivers Packet that the handbook has been reviewed.
