It is upon the rower and their guardian/family to ensure they are able to continue rowing with the team at expected attendance, and to participate in our regattas, before the season starts in September.
8 Steps of Registration
Step 1 – Float Test
Every athlete with Tempe Junior Crew must have a Float Test on file with us without exception in order to row on the first day of practice.
- If your athlete rowed last season or did the ITR , you can skip this section. Proceed to Step 2 of Registration process.
- If your athlete rowed with another club previously you can ask them to fill out the Float Test form, but if you are unable to do so you will still need to complete a Float Test.
- Alternate option to getting a float test certified, is a copy of your valid Life Guard Certification which will be taken instead.
- Requirements and steps to get Float testing :
- Find a site to have your float test scheduled. Several options for completing your Float Test include your local public pool, Kiwanis Recreation Center/Tempe, Valley of the Sun JCC, Cactus Aquatic and Fitness Center, PCDS Pool, or YMCA. Please Google “Float Testing Sites near me” and find one, then call and schedule an appointment.
- Float Tests must be completed in a pool under the supervision of a lifeguard certified by the American Red Cross or equivalent. You cannot have your swim coach sign off unless they are qualified as noted above to do a float test.
- There may be costs for the float test, we recommend that you call ahead to confirm availability and payment.
- Schedule your float test at the site you chose, and take the print out of the form below to site when testing. The testing entity/lifeguard should sign off on your float test form.
- Take a picture of form and email it into membership@tempejuniorcrew.org 72 hours before start of season.
- Bring physical signed off float testing form on first day of season and hand into coaches for submission.
Completed Float Test Forms should be scanned and emailed 3 days PRIOR to start of season at: membership@tempejuniorcrew.org.

Step 2 – US Rowing Membership
Each rower MUST have a USRowing Championship Membership that will be valid through December.
- All rowers must purchase a Championship Membership. (The Championship Membership includes a magazine subscription to USRowing’s magazine)
- Current rowers must ensure their USRowing membership does not expire before December 30 2024.
- All rowers must make sure Tempe Junior Crew is listed under Member’s Organization. The Tempe Junior Crew Club Code is B6ATY.
- If a rower does not have the proper USRowing Membership, they will not be allowed on the water.
Go to: USRowing – Join or Renew Membership
Step 3 – Tempe Junior Crew Membership Application
Each rower must complete a Membership Application online. Each rower will need to have a valid USRowing Champion Membership number and expiration date before filling out the application.
Fill out: TJC Season Membership Application
Step 4 – Review the Parent/Athlete Handbook
Please download the Tempe Junior Crew Parent/Athlete Handbook. Parents and rowers will both need to sign an acknowledgment in the Waivers Packet that the handbook has been reviewed.
Download: Tempe Junior Crew Parent/Athlete Handbook
Step 5 – Sign Waivers and Rules Packet
Each rower and parent/guardian must read and sign (in all applicable places) the Fall through Summer Waivers and Rules Packet. These waivers will be good through to Summer of 2025
If you recently completed an Intro to Row, you should have already turned this in.
Fill Out Waivers: TJC Waivers and Rules Packet
Step 6 – Fees
There are several different costs when you join TJC for Fall 2025.
See chart below to assess the different items needed and therefore the amount you must pay for your rower.
NOTE: REGATTA FEES and Travel fees for regattas during the season are seperate from this Fall 2025 Seasonal membership fee and uniform/erg fees , and will be updated with our Regatta Schedule once season starts.
TJC is committed to diversity and seeks to create a welcoming environment for everyone. We will help any athlete demonstrating financial need and do not want the fee to be a barrier to their participation. Please see the “Scholarships” page on the TJC website for more details.
Membership Types:
A) Two Week Trial Membership:
New rowers (whom have completed an ITR with TJC already), who are considering continuing to row competitively with the team (during this Fall season) can sign up for a two-week trial membership, before committing to the rest of the season.
The two-week trial membership costs $200 (with Zelle) and $207 (with PayPal), and the fee will be applied towards the full membership fee if the rower stays on for the remainder of the season.
Please note that the Introduction to Row (ITR) fee will not apply to the full membership fee. Please add your rower(s) name in the memo field for payments and clearly also note “Trial Membership fee” in your payment memo.
PREFERRED PAYMENT METHOD:
$200 with Zelle to payment@tempejuniorcrew.org
or
$207 via PayPal to payment@tempejuniorcrew.org
NOTE: If you are trialing for 2 weeks, you must complete all the above steps and then pay $200. Once you do this, please send in an email to membership@tempejuniorcrew.org that you want a 2 week trial only. Then you are done. DO NOT order uniforms, unitard or erg – until you join the full seasonal membership after your trial.
Be aware that obtaining a uniform after our uniform order deadline on August 15th is not possible, until next season. TJC will attempt to find a loaner or spare uniform, if your rower joins the team for the full season.
B. Fall 2025 Season Membership :
To register for Fall 2025 you need to purchase 2-4 of the following items noted in our chart below, and calculate your total, then paying for them.
List of the 4 Items (see details in chart below).
1- Membership Registration fee
2- Practice Unitard Fee
3- TJC Team Uniform Bundle with competitive uniform gear for regattas
4. Erg Rentals
FALL SEASON PAYMENT HOW TO DO IT:
Send in a single one-time lump payment for all items (whatever you need of the 4) via Zelle or PayPal (please note Paypal extra fees note)
Please add your rower full name(s) in the memo field for payments!
In the Memo section, also breakdown what items you are paying for (note whether it is for seasonal membership, uniform bundle and practice unitard , Erg), that you are paying for it.
Ensure you correctly tally the total of all the separate fees for each item when you send in payments.
If you have more than one rower, and are sending in payments for both: You then need to note all those details clearly noted for both rowers in your memo section of the payment process please.
This way we clearly know who the payment is for and for what all you are paying.
Paypal Payments: The Price based on payment options with Zelle and PayPal differ. There is an additional fee for PayPal processing added with Paypal payments. We have included this difference in the membership fee, so if paying by PayPal ensure you send a onetime lump payment for all items. If you send in different payments via PayPal, we may have to add additional fees for items due to the additional processing fee involved. Thank you.
